It’s entertaining … Channel hopping on TV, pagescanning through the national paper, I caught a glimpse of the news of the decision of one famous actor here whether to run or not for the presidency in the coming elections in 2004. Three things stuck to my head: Actor, Presidency, Decision. Actor, is quite good on screen and very famous with the masses. Presidency, the highest governing position in my already unstable and very much shaken country. Decision, is something very important when it comes to casting your votes during elections and aspirants should make firm decisions before the elections. Putting all these together, I still cant figure out why a famous actor would be very much interested to become president of my already shaken country? Winning? yes definitely he will win, according to statistics and popularity. The masses who comprises a vast majority will vote for popularity, like it did when we put Erap to the seat. Somehow I never thought that being a president is depended on one’s popularity rating. Somehow, nobody speaks and cares of platforms nowadays. Maybe its about time we should at least be educated enough to choose our leaders. The situation right now, with all the different scenarios of choas being shown. From the First Gentlemen being accused, the accuser being accused back, young military officers taking over a hotel to voice out their grievances, suspected terrorists popping up here and there all over the land, impeachment against our chief justice, election candidates giving their best "teethy" smile for the land to see, actors making a political-career shift …… how confusing more can it get? I am just concern about what would the future be after the elections. I hope the leader that gets elected would be someone that can bring the country to its feet and really fix the whole chaotic system once and for all. The system is still there … and probably will stay there for a long time. People come and go in the position, but the effort to change is always sucked into the existing forces of the system which in turn results to nothing and useless efforts
